Founded in 1878, the Okonite Company opened its plant in Paterson, New Jersey in 1924. For the last one hundred years, the Paterson plant, located at 959 Market Street, has been producing insulated electrical cable for applications all over the world. Okonite cables transmit power underground up to 345,000 volts for our nation’s utilities. They even connect Liberty Island to light the Statue of Liberty’s torch. Today, Okonite is one of the last manufacturing enterprises left in the city. Visit the Paterson Museum and learn more about this Paterson-based industry and its hundred years of making history.
