Gasoline Alley

Shortly after opening in 1932, Hinchliffe Stadium became home to a variety of motor sports racing. This included the relatively new sport of midget car racing. Midget cars are small cars with large engines, frequently driven by hobbyist, (not professional) racers. What could go wrong? As the Stadium grew as a popular destination on the racing circuit, a row of garages on East 29th Street gained a large following among the racers. Dubbed “Gasoline Alley,” these mechanics shops became more important than the race track itself.

Take a look inside a garage in Gasoline Alley. Who knows, you may even see a midget car?
